Hey, I’m Derek.
I approach therapy as a fellow traveler.
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. I got into this work because I’m passionate about helping people through moments when it can feel like there’s no way forward. I’ve done my own work, too, including navigating my own experience with illness.
While our experiences may be different, I know what it’s like when life, or your body, doesn’t cooperate with the plans you had made for it. I don’t approach this work from the assumption that I have all the answers. Instead, I bring curiosity, and a genuine desire to understand and guide you to healing.
I primarily work with individuals processing trauma, PTSD, chronic illness, chronic pain, accidents, and major life transitions. I also work with couples navigating relationship challenges and teens seeking support.
My style is warm, thoughtful, and direct. There may be a joke here and there, but above all else, I want to create a space where you feel safe enough to explore whatever brought you here.
Outside of the therapy room, you’ll usually find me with my two pets, Alistair and Zorro, or in the pool training as a competitive swimmer.
